The resulting skirt will be bespoke - made to to your own personal size.
It’s all about the fit and the fabric, and if you don’t believe me, just give this a go….:-)
I am also advertising this through my mailing list, and places are, as they say, limited, so....! Just comment below, or message me if you'd like to come, and please look at my website for where to find me: http://www.bobbiesroom.co.uk/contact.html
Here's the details:
Hi everyone!
I am running a one day workshop very soon (dates tbc), that will teach you how to make a perfectly fitting pattern for a gorgeous tweed (or any other fabric for that matter!) skirt, show you how to test the fit of the pattern with a whizzed up calico toile, correct the pattern with alterations if necessary, and then give you the unique opportunity to buy pure wool Yorkshire, Irish, or Harris tweed fabric through me at wholesale prices, approximately 35% off the retail price.
Keeping the pattern simple allows time for fit, which is paramount.
And this really simple pattern can be converted into a personal sized card block (pattern template) which you can then use to make any other style of skirt you want. (I teach complimentary courses in how to do this. See here on my website www.bobbiesroom.co.uk/classes).
You can choose from either a waisted style, or a drop waisted version, whichever you prefer. See photo for the drop waisted version, very simple as you can see in the pic of the pinkish short straight skirt below.
All materials for making the pattern and the toile are included in the price, (pattern paper, calico, thread, even an envelope to take it home in!), as are all drinks, and a light lunch (with the famous lime and mint non alcoholic cocktail!) - just bring your sewing kit and sewing machine…
So the day plan is :
*Intro and explanation of tools and methods, wool and silk fabric swatches to view...
*Using the big table here and pattern paper, convert a basic size 12 block provided to your own measurements, with a simple calculation (no hard, horrible maths here, and I can do it for you, if you like!)
*Add a little for ‘ease’ - so that it won’t end up skin tight…
*Add seam allowance, cut out the pattern, and use this to cut out in calico
*Sew up the side seams and centre back seam (easy, even for beginners!). Press seams open.
*Try on for a fitting
*Pin out any excess fabric or mark where too tight - measurements don’t tell you everything!
*Adjust paper pattern according to pins and marking on the toile
*Check that pattern is accurate, and has all appropriate markings.
The price is £50 for the day, currently planned for 4hrs and I will need a minimum of 4 people to run this, but can accommodate 6 - 7. Please sign up here - just comment 'interested', or preferably email me on [email protected], and I will get back to you!
(Remember: all materials for making the pattern and the toile are included in the price, (pattern paper, calico, thread, even an envelope to take it home in!), as are all drinks, and a light lunch (with the famous Lime and Mint non alcoholic cocktail!).
