It's been the usual constant stream of teaching pattern cutting classes, (with a bit of sewing thrown in), a bespoke commission just starting, and the artwork.
BUT, added to that this week, has been a masterclass at Warwick University Arts Centre (Japanese kimono making) on Sunday, starting a pattern cutting job for a client (of which I've delegated a large part), and fabric researches both for the bespoke job, and for a student wanting to start her own line. Why is the simplest sounding fabric so hard to find...?! Fabric research can be more time consuming than you think....
Anyway, all was going pretty well until I had a very minor scrape of the paintwork on my car... Negotiating bollards / railings etc first thing in the morning while trying to get into a totally closed building on time to do the masterclass.....not the best way to start a day, especially after your satnav had a freak out on the way, so I was late to begin with!! In case you didn't know, bodywork on any car is EXPENSIVE to get fixed!
But that particular day was kind of saved by bumping into a big black guy with EXTREMELY long braided hair (you'd think at that point I might have recognised him), who turned out to be Courtney Pine (jazz musician), who was playing a gig at the same venue that night! We had a bit of a chat, and he asked if Jonny (my husband) and I wanted to come along, and we were put on the guest list! Maybe someone was looking down on me to cheer me up a bit...:-/
When I was a kid, I always said that I wanted to do lots of different things when I grew up, and it seems to be turning out to be true. Does that mean I'm grown up now?!
Also....coming up pretty soon, if you live in / near London, you may be interested in this - a Japanese Pattern Cutting short course, taught by your truly:
