Bobbie's Biography
Contact: 0 7 9 4 1 6 1 9 9 9 2
Bobbie started making clothes at the age of 10, and as a small child, one of her favourite playthings was a piece of brilliantly-coloured satin fabric.
As a young teenager, unable to find the clothes she imagined in the shops, she started to construct her own designs, learning from bought patterns and long hours of experimentation in front of the mirror.
After leaving school, and having spent a few years touring and recording with the band Comus, a degree in Fashion and Textiles followed. This resulted in a job offer to be part of a small design studio based in the pre-nascent Covent Garden, run by Shelagh Brown of Stirling Cooper, then one of the leading high street brands.
Freelance design work followed on from this, and her designs were bought by Top Shop, sold under her own name label for Jeffrey Rogers.
Alongside this, Bobbie worked on fashion and editorial illustration for National Magazines Company and Cosmopolitan, and on video pack design.
Moving out of London to Oxfordshire, Bobbie started designing and making wedding dresses, special occasion dresses, and stage outfits. This grew into her small business, then called Individual Clothes.
She continued her artwork at the same time, producing large scale oil pastel drawings and paintings, and developing fine detail techniques on smaller scale illustration work.
In 2000, Bobbie was offered work at her local college, teaching pattern-cutting and garment production, which led to a post-graduate teaching qualification, the Post Graduate Certificate in Education.
Subsequently, she began lecturing at De Montfort University in Leicester, and has since worked at Birmingham City University, Wolverhampton University, the University of Northampton, and at Ravensbourne University in Greenwich, London on their Fashion BA and MA courses.
Masterclasses at Warwick University in Japanese pattern cutting techniques have subsequently developed, and Short Courses at Ravensbourne, London are being scheduled for 2019. Bobbie also does private one to one teaching in London.
Following the reformation of her band Comus, and needing to adjust working routines, Bobbie now concentrates on Atelier by Bobbie Seagroatt, and www.bobbieseagroatt.com her re-branded and resurgent bespoke design and make businesses, teaching one to one, workshops and small group classes at her home studio, masterclasses and university teaching.
Recent projects include:
Dressfresco: My business where you can commission a painting of your or your wife's wedding dress or any other meaningful item of clothing in oil paint or oil pastel or marker pen on canvas.

Achievement of my MA in Fine Art Painting 2019 / 2020 despite the corona pandemic! A lot of my subject matter is the female form and fabrics unsurprisingly! Please visit the website at www.bobbieseagroatt.com
