Fitting
ONLINE CLASSES NOW!
All my classes are now online due to the Corona virus pandemic, and it seems to be working out really well for pattern cutting and fitting! (Sewing is not so feasible as it is such small scale, and I would need specialist cameras and lighting.)
All teaching is by arrangement with you and is one to one and the cost of a 5 week, (1 hour per week), course is £30 per hour, £150 payable in advance.
Pre Covid, my classes were 2 hrs long, but working on a screen needs a bit more concentration, so an hour seems to be the right amount of time. Prices are consequently halved, and although you wouldn't get as much done in an hour as 2 hours, it seems to work well, as the time is more concentrated. You can of course continue with another batch of 5 classes to achieve the original descriptions of course content.
So please contact me on the form below (please scroll down to the bottom), to book a course, or just to discuss. I am always happy to talk to you!

COURSE 6: £320 5 weeks, 10 hrs teaching or equivalent in 1 hr classes online)
You know how some items of clothing you just wear to death? I’ll bet that the reason will be either the fabric that you love, but more than anything, I’ll bet it’s the fit. However beautiful the fabric is or the colour, if it’s uncomfortable to wear and doesn’t fit properly, you just won’t wear it….I have several items I’ve bought from High Street stores that this applies to, and I bet you do too! This course will save you lots of wasted time and money when making clothes by enabling you to have a brilliant result.
What is a fitting course?
This is a course that shows you how to fit the test garment made from your first pattern, (the toile), and then adjust the pattern to make a perfect fit. When you first make a pattern or use a commercial pattern, it’s VERY advisable to make a ‘toile’ first to test the pattern re. sizing, cut, proportion and accuracy.
What is a ‘toile’?
This is a test, or try-out garment, usually done in a cheap fabric (calico or muslin), so as not to make expensive mistakes on your real fabric! The word ‘toile’ is simply the French word for fabric.
How will a fitting course help me?
Fitting is really the key to a garment a) looking good, and b) making it a pleasure to wear. If you are spending time and money on making a garment whatever it might be - a posh do or simple skirt, it’s worth taking time to get it right! No two people are the same shape or size - even measurements don’t tell you everything - one shoulder could be higher than the other, or one hip a different shape to the other. (A personal example!)
The FITTING course shows you how to:
Some fitting problems are easier to correct than others, but I will show you how to analyse where the fit isn’t right, and what to do about it. As a designer and maker of bespoke clothing, this is, in essence, what I do for every client, so I have LOADS of experience!

The FITTING course shows you how to:
- prepare the toile
- pin the toile to fit the body - bodice, skirt and trouser.
- mark it up
- transfer the marked amounts onto your original pattern. (You may then need to make another toile to test the alterations).
