Bobbie's biography

Bobbie started making clothes at the age of 10, and as a small child, one of her most treasured playthings was a piece of brilliantly-coloured satin fabric.
As a young teenager, unable to find the clothes she imagined in the shops, she started to construct her own designs, learning from bought patterns and long hours of experimentation in front of the mirror.
After leaving school, and having spent a few years touring and recording with the band Comus, a degree in Fashion and Textiles followed. This resulted in a job offer to be part of a small design studio based in the pre-nascent Covent Garden, run by Shelagh Brown of Stirling Cooper, then one of the leading high street brands.
Freelance design work followed on from this, and her designs were bought by Top Shop, sold under her own name label for Jeffrey Rogers.
Alongside this, Bobbie worked on fashion and editorial illustration for national magazines, and on video pack design.
Moving out of London to Oxfordshire, Bobbie started designing and making wedding dresses, special occasion dresses, and stage outfits. This grew into her small business, then called Individual Clothes.
She continued her artwork at the same time, producing large scale oil pastel drawings and paintings, and developing fine detail techniques on smaller scale illustration work.
In 2000, Bobbie was offered work at her local college teaching pattern-cutting and garment production, which led to her qualifying as a teacher. Subsequently, she began lecturing at De Montfort University in Leicester, the University of Northampton, and Birmingham City University on their fashion BA degree courses.
Following the reformation of her band Comus, and needing to adjust working routines, Bobbie now concentrates on Atelier, her re-branded and resurgent design and make business, teaching one to one classes at her home studio, and university teaching.
Bobbie runs Atelier from her home studio in rural Oxfordshire.
