Here's the lo res photos of a recentish wedding dress commission. Hi res ones are hopefully on their way to me, and will post them in the gallery page as soon as I have them. But for now, here's Lucy - genuinely a princess in white silk and lace....

Hi Everyone,
It's been ages since I posted here on the wedding dress website, but that doesn't mean I haven't been really busy! For the earlier part of this year I was pretty much flat out, trying to get my new studio decorated in the Christmas holidays, (then catching a nasty virus, and having to give up!), teaching in my studio here, out at Ravensbourne sometimes 3 days a week, which I enjoyed hugely, working on a long (timewise) wedding dress commission and other small commissions in between times, not to mention band stuff - Gothenberg in Sweden, Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, NL with Comus, and Union Chapel, London and Incubate Festival in Tilburg again recently with Current 93! Phew...... and Madrid for the Villa Manuela festival in 10 days with Comus. Concentrating on promoting the classes a bit more lately, with special offers ( 5 classes for the price of 4, as a starting offer, and now with extra space, I am promoting group classes), and all in the lovely new environment. I love working in there, and everyone else seems to like it too...there's an amazing view of trees and fields, but it's not TOO distracting! A new course of pattern cutting classes in another location will be starting after Christmas - more details TBC. As I mentioned, I don't post on here so regularly now, as one can only do so much in a day (!), but the place to look is either on my classes blog, or the facebook pages (for Atelier Wedding Dresses, or Atelier Natural History which are linked on this website), or my personal facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bobbie.seagroatt. See you soon I hope, and here's a photo or two of the new studio, and me in it! Bobbie A friend sent these to me the other day, of a friend of his wedding- how fabulous this whole occasion looks! The long grass, the amazing dress (made by the brides own fair hand, the men's outfits....and best of all, whe looks soooooo happy. The dress cost £16.50 - no, I didn't get the decimal point in the wrong place - and I think the photos here go a little way to demonstrating that a wedding is for the couple themselves, and what they really think would be romantic and fun and meaningful to them. Not necessarily an 'event' to impress hundreds of people with thousands being spent...
It's YOUR event guys and gals, and although I understand it's not always possible, do your own thing as far as you can, and have something personal about your wedding, to make it meaningful to you. I try to do this in my design work, as I believe it is THE thing..... email me or call me if you're getting married and you think the same way! Bobbie Very pleased to announce that I will apparently have a nice article with photos about my tweedy stuff in Four Shires magazine in the June issue... Sorry - to explain to those not local to me, it's one of those monthly county glossies, and will hopefully reach my potential customers in Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, Gloucestershire. Very strange how the tweeds have developed out of the wedding dress business...strange but true! The article will explain a bit, but the word count is very limiting!
Will let you know when it's actually out... Now a tweed wedding dress, that would be my idea of heaven! Anyone else think the same? Hi Everyone, just a very quick word about the pattern cutting / sewing classes that I run alongside my designing / making businesses. I have one or two gaps to fill in the teaching schedule so if you happen on this blog, and you, or someone you know are/might be interested, please message me on atelier@bobbiesroom.co.uk , and please see the lovely dedicated blog for the classes on http://sewingbobbiesroom.blogspot.co.uk. Making, sewing and crafts are all of a sudden trendy, but I have been doing these things for a long time, (!) and can pass on all the tips, tricks, knowledge, and experience (not to mention experience of teaching for 10 years) that has come my way. Very reasonable charges, and these classes are one to one, so excellent value for money. Extra tuition for students National Diploma to BA Degree level, or total beginners all totally welc Bobbie Hi Everyone,
Just to give you a bit of information about www.ateliernaturalhistory.co.uk - my bespoke tweed outdoor clothing website, and you may wonder why I am talking about this on the newsblog for the wedding dresses site..... Well, before I made a separate website for the tweed clothing, I had a page on THIS website, just for somewhere to show these designs, alongside the wedding dresses, incongruous as that may seem! As the dedicated tweed website is now up and running, (and looking fab, I have to say), I firstly made the original page invisible, here on bobbiesroom.co.uk, but then I realised that it was coming up on google searches for 'bespoke tweed outdoor clothing', so a bit confusing to potential customers. So I then deleted said page, but it still comes up on a google search. It may disappear in time (well, I hope so), but if you are looking for tweed and the wedding dress site comes up, please just scroll down to the bottom of each page, and you'll see a link for the tweeds. And vice versa, if you are looking for wedding dresses, and you happen on a page talking about tweed, then apologies please just go to www.bobbiesroom.co.uk Ohhhh, sorry about this! Am now about to contact my server to see what can be done. Bobbie A good day yesterday.....some very nice compliments about my stuff, both the wedding dresses and Atelier Natural History tweeds, after I had contacted a magazine. So, fingers crossed that this will result in an article/feature and more work!
On a different subject, I've been measuring up and planning for my expansion into the next door room, which I will use as my teaching studio and fitting room. So, a bit more space for ladies to swish around in when coming for a fitting for their dress, (!) and a bigger pattern cutting table that can be accessed from every side. All that will be heaven, and the room is on the sunny morning side of the house, so encouraging to work in in the mornings! There's just a bit of musical chairs to happen before I can really start, (rooms wise, which is hard to speed up), so I am having to be be really patient. NOT one of my strong points.....! (Taps fingers on table...) Dear Atelier Wedding Dresses - I feel I'm not paying you enough attention - all I've been talking about lately is tweed - but this is only a temporary situation!
As you know, I am currently in the throes of making the black wedding dress, and have spent an inordinate amount of time tracking down a particular fabric for it on and off over the last few weeks. The exact desired fabric is apparently not available, despite researching and contacting at least 6 different suppliers, but I have found a similar version, and will 'add' to it to make it even better than the original. I hate to be defeated, but I regard the solution as a success in the end, and conclude that this fabric was specially made to order for the original company. So don't feel ignored - you are the one getting the attention behind the scenes! Need to do some research, and not sure if I'm asking the right question, but....
(And this all assumes that you are the type of person who favours marriage per se. If not, please ignore.) 1)If you are an unmarried woman, did you always dream of/imagine a fantasy/fairy tale/dream dress in which to be married? 2) Or, (if you are a married woman reading this), did you ever dream of such before you were married, or were you simply guided by instinct/own sense of style or preferences when the need arose to buy/commission a dress? 3) How would you rate the importance of your dress in the whole wedding event? (Please use a scale of 1-10, 10 being the most important to you.) I would also be interested in the importance of other factors, (please rate 1-10, or put in order of importance), such as: Ceremony venue Reception/Party venue Music Honeymoon Food & drink Flowers Please copy and paste the above into a private message to me, if you have a few minutes to spare, and if you have sisters/daughters/friends who would like to take part, I'd be very grateful for their input too! This will help me to keep up in the culture stakes, as the way I work is sometimes a little isolated....and I like to keep my finger on the button. Thank you! Bobbie Well, survived my first wedding fair yesterday!
Good day, with loads of great comments, and talked to lots of prospective customers - fingers crossed! Always amazed at how much people like my drawings, as to me they're just part of the process. Nice to meet up with an ex student of mine, now working for a wedding dress company, and a friend who tells me she's been putting together a scrap book of images/textures/and ideas related to her wedding dress. I reckon this is a great way to identify your preferences if you're the kind of person who finds it hard to make decisions. In effect, this is how designers work, when starting on a new design project. So, time will tell as to work results, but it's been pretty good publicity on a local level. And thank you to Anna Galvin, owner of the hotel, who kept us very well supplied with tea/coffee (and champers at the end!), and was very jolly, appreciative and was promoting me brilliantly to visitors!! Thank you Anna :-) |
